A manufacturer warranty covers the materials — if a shingle itself is defective, the manufacturer (GAF or Owens Corning) covers it. A workmanship warranty covers the installation — if something was installed incorrectly, that’s on the contractor. They protect against two completely different failures, which is why you want both. Every Home Source roof includes our Lifetime Workmanship Warranty on the installation, on top of the manufacturer warranty you choose for the materials.

Yes — your roof gets one manufacturer’s system, so you’ll pick one. The advantage of working with Home Source is that we hold the top credential with all three: GAF Master Elite® contractor, Owens Corning Preferred Contractor, and CertainTeed ShingleMaster™ PRO Credentialed Contractor. That means we can offer the strongest warranty any of the three makes, and recommend based on what actually fits your home rather than what we happen to be certified to install.

Every CertainTeed shingle comes with standard SureStart protection, which fully covers the shingles against a manufacturing defect in the early years after installation — typically about 10 years. After that period ends, you’re covered for shingles only, at a reduced rate as the roof ages. SureStart PLUS extends that protection substantially: at the 4-STAR level Home Source installs, you get 50 years of non-prorated SureStart coverage on a single-family detached home — with materials, labor, tear-off, and disposal included — plus 15 years of workmanship coverage. It requires a full CertainTeed Integrity Roof System® installed by a credentialed contractor. Coverage on other structure types is shorter; ask us how it applies to your home.

Manufacturer warranties commonly include some provision for transferring coverage to a new owner, but the specific terms, timeframes, and any transfer requirements vary by manufacturer and by warranty tier. Rather than guess, ask your Home Source project consultant about transferability for the specific warranty on your roof and we’ll give you the exact terms in writing.

No. Owens Corning requires extended warranties to be registered within 60 days of installation, and Home Source handles that registration for every qualifying roof through our Owens Corning contractor portal. You don’t have to track a deadline or fill out a form — we take care of it as part of the job.

For a workmanship issue, contact Home Source directly with proof of purchase and evidence of the defect or damage. We’ll inspect the roofing system and determine the appropriate course of action to remedy the issue. For a manufacturer materials claim, call us first anyway — we installed the roof, we know the system, and we’ll help you work through the manufacturer’s process rather than leaving you to navigate it alone.
